Reflection of music video
Reflection of music video:
Desperado
My music video is trying to represent the feeling of being alone and isolated within society, this is shown with the maze. This is because mazes represent confusion. In my music video the maze also represents the troubles that women experience in society. The actor imitating the paintings of men in the music video represents how society believes women to be inferior to men, and society expects women to conform to their expectations and stereotypes.
What have I learnt?
I have learnt that you have to consider everything in your shots that may damage the mise-en-scene and that the performance of the actor is very significant in creating a successful music video.
What went well?
-I had well executed shot transitions
-The shots were in time with the music
-I included lots of elements of mise-en-scene (the museum colours matched her top in the maze) (her earrings matched the walls in the museum and the sky)
-I didn't run out of shots
-Good lighting, I used a mixture of natural lighting (such as in the maze shots) and unnatural lighting
-My shots weren't too long
-I included intertextual references
-I included lip synching to include performative elements
What went wrong?
-Not all the lip-syncing was in time with the music
-The house in the background of a maze shot ruins the illusion
-The arc shot at the beginning the camera wasn't very stabilised
-I didn't have a clear narrative
-I needed to make my intertextual references more clear.
My intertextual references are the painting gallery scene in frozen where she copies the paintings, the music video APES**T by BeyoncĂ© and The Carters, and a short art film by Stuart Pearson Wright called ‘the maze’ featuring Keira Knightley.
The effect of my choice of intextuality
I related my music video to scenes from Frozen to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. I also referred to a music video by Beyonce because she is an admired artist and she has popular music videos which would help promote my music video.

Consider the effects of the decisions that you made re. intertextuality - why did you make reference to those specific media products? What ideology/representation were you hoping to bring across from the original products? Try to include your reasoning behind your decisions.
