Key elements to include

Check list: My music video will be a mix of performative and narrative, therefore will have to include performative elements such as lip synching. Also to include a basic storyline with a clear message. Intertextuality- media technique used in 21 Savage's music video 'A lot' Two different social groups- age and gender Two or more different locations Different camera shots and angles Smooth shot transitions Appropriate lighting for the setting Mise-en-scene: Colours Props Costumes Scenery These key elements must be included in my music video to conform to the expectations of the genre, the audience you expect and what is expected of a video.

Blue lights by Jorja Smith music video analysis

Blue lights By Jorja Smith Music video analysis This music video is protesting against police violence. The video contains gripping visuals that humanize the black lives that are wrongly perceived as threats by the police. The music video has the intent to show the viewers the impact that stereotypes have and how they are forced upon black people. Jorja Smith said 'I wanted to capture men/boys of Walsall and Birmingham from all different walks of life doing everyday activities to show that the stereotypes we are bombarded with are misleading and, ultimately, harmful'. This music video is a narrative music video as there are no performative elements such as lip synching, they have used actors instead of using the artist which is one of the key elements to a narrative music video. The actors in the music video are staring at the camera in order to intimidate the viewer and draw more attention to the lyrics and make them think about the message that the video is sending....

This is America by Childish Gambino music video analysis

This is America By Childish Gambino Music video analysis This music video is protesting against gun violence. In the music video people are just watching whilst he kills people and no one does anything, they don't even react. This is criticizing the gun law as it is suggesting that people keep dying at the hand of guns and nothing is being changed to stop the deaths. The juxtaposition between the commercial dancing and the gritty visuals of senseless gun violence makes profound statements about the perception of being black in America vs the reality. Black people are usually associated with crime. There are different intertextual references within the music video such as the reference to a church shooting that happened in 2015 Charleston Church Massacre that claimed the lives of nine African Americans. These references are being used to add real life examples which adds more depth and meaning to this protest. The music video opens with African tribal music, Ch ildish Ga...

Just a girl by No Doubt ten frames

Image
Just a girl By No Doubt Music video analysis Ten frames This music video is protesting for gender equality. This song talks about how girl's feel in todays society with being giving stereotypes and how people think girls should act certain ways just because they are girls. This is a performative music video. This style of video uses the band/artist throughout the majority of the video, Gwen the female singer is lip synching throughout the video therefore making the music video performative. The first shot is of a man removing a tarp off of a car. This shot is used to establish the setting as a suburban town. The man is wearing a pink top which is usually associated with women, this is expressing to the viewer that colours should not be associated with a certain gender. This is suggesting form the first shot that the music video is protesting against sexism. The next shot is of a woman dancing while she walks, this suggests that she is happy. She is wearing a...

Earth song by Michael Jackson ten frames

Image
Earth song By Michael Jackson Music video analysis Ten frames This is a narrative music video as the artist is telling a story with the music video and with the lyrics. However, it does have some elements of a performative music video such as Michael Jackson lip synching. The first shot is a panning low angle shot that is used to established the setting which is in a jungle surrounded with wildlife. This shot has a long duration and it is being used to create a tranquil atmosphere. The emphasis on the sun suggests happiness. Later in that same shot fog starts to set in which creates a sense of mystery and the unknown. Then it is realised that the smoke is pollution as the camera spots a vehicle pushing through branches and drives straight towards the camera until the screen turns black. T his transition is very smooth as the screen goes black then fades into a dark scene with an orange background which represents fire. Then you realise that it is the s...

Letter to copy write owner

To whom it may concern, I am a 16 year old UK student and studying Media A-level. Part of my coursework requires me to make a music video interpretation, for this I have selected the song 'Not if you were the last junkie on earth' by The Dandy Warhols, which I understand you own the rights too. If there is anything required of me before I proceed, please let me know. Yours Faithfully Erin Horton

Song for my music video

Song for my music video Bury a friend  By Billie Eilish "Bury a friend" was released in 2019 It is 3 minutes 13 seconds long Why have I chosen this track and artist? In my music video I will be protesting against drugs therefore this song provides the lyrics to support my message there are references to drugs and depression 'the things that are deadly, The way I'm drinkin' you down'. Most songs tend to promote or glorify the use of drugs however this song is conforming to the purpose of my music video of showing the effects of drugs. Billie Eilish spoke to Rolling Stone about her mental heath, saying she experienced depression from ages 13 to 16, which involved self harm  The lyrics explore the darker side to her character, how people have to fight the 'monsters' under their bed, they have to fight the urge/ the peer pressure employing them to consume drugs and alcohol.  Eilish said some of her friends had died due to drug overdose, meaning thi...

Take me to church by Hozier ten frames

Image
Take me to church By Hozier Music video analysis Ten frames This music video is protesting against homophobia, violence and abuse. The opening shot of this music video is of a bonfire, it is a wide shot and is very short but the video keeps jumping back to it suggesting that there is some significance towards it. The bonfire could be foreshadowing the dark event that will occur in the video this is because fire connotes to danger. The next shot is very rushed creating a sense of panic, this is also developed by the worried facial expression on the mans face, it only lasts two seconds and consists of a man running from one side of the frame to the other. The next shot is of another male figure riding a bike. It is a backward tracking shot and there is no one in the street or any cars on the road suggesting that he is an isolated figure within society. Then the video refers back to the bonfire but as an extreme close up shot therefore e...
