Ten frames

This music video is protesting for gender equality. This song talks about how girl's feel in todays society with being giving stereotypes and how people think girls should act certain ways just because they are girls.

This is a performative music video. This style of video uses the band/artist throughout the majority of the video, Gwen the female singer is lip synching throughout the video therefore making the music video performative.

The first shot is of a man removing a tarp off of a car. This shot is used to establish the setting as a suburban town. The man is wearing a pink top which is usually associated with women, this is expressing to the viewer that colours should not be associated with a certain gender. This is suggesting form the first shot that the music video is protesting against sexism.

The next shot is of a woman dancing while she walks, this suggests that she is happy. She is wearing a suit which is traditionally associated with men which again goes against stereotypes of genders.

Next there is a line of men walking out of a house. This is suggesting that the girls life is surrounded by men. The shot is a low angle shot which could suggest that men are thought to be superior over women. Low angle shots can also be used to make the viewer feel intimidated.

The next shot is of a man opening the trunk of a car. This shot and the ones that follow have a very short duration, this could be to create a sense of chaos which could be representative of what females lives are like.

This is a high angle shot, with focus on the mans trumpet to show that their lives revolve around  music.

This shot makes the viewer feel as if they are actually there with the band. This shot makes it seem as thought he men are in charge which conforms to their stereotypes that men are dominant over women.

The use of the actual band members makes it clear that the video is performative not narrative.

This shot also creates emphasis on the men and how women are thought to need them in their lives.

Showing that they're in a suburban town suggests to the viewer that even though they are famous they're just like everyone else, this music video is humanising the artist.
