Statement of intent Draft

Statement of intent

Check-list for my statement of intent
- Who your artist is, what their identity is and why they'd make this protest
- What your intertextual reference is and why this reference will appeal to my audience
- Why you've made the aesthetic decision you have
- The message of the protest in the video; what does the artist want to change and why; how does this - Link to the target audience stated in the brief
- Make clear the two social groups I will be including
- The two different locations
- Make clear the purpose of my website
- Decide what two page I will include
- Reference how I will make sure there is synergy between the two products

For my protest music video I intend to have a theme of anti-drugs this is appropriate for the target audience which is 16 to 25 year olds, this is due to the rising amount of drug and alcohol consumption of this age group. I have chosen to use the song 'not if you were the last junkie on earth' by The Dandy Warhols.
The Dandy Warhols are the artist of this music video, they created it in order to bring awareness to the affects that drugs can have, they have done this in a non threatening approach. They have had past experiences with drugs and had gained a reputation. Therefore they understand what can happen to peoples health, mentally and physically.
The artist wanted to protest against this in order to show the danger involved within drug use and hopefully through this message save someone's life.

My intertextual references will include the music video 'A lot' by 21 Savage where a media language technique is used to represent the juxtapositions that are entangled within peoples lives. In my music video this will show the effects drugs have on peoples lives, such as depression but they mask it from society. 21 Savage is a very popular artist and his target audience is similar to the target audience for my music video so the viewers will understand the reference and therefore my music video will appeal more to the viewers.
Another intertextual reference I will use is from the film a star is born this is because he uses drugs and alcohol to feel good about himself and to aid his performance, he thinks it's fine but he ends up crossing a line whereby he cannot return.

Within the music video I am going to explore the representations of age and gender. This will help show that drug addiction can happen to anyone.

I will included two or more locations within my music video, one of which will be in my dinning room, at the table. The other locations I haven't decided on yet.

My aesthetic decisions include have a repetitive colour of black and white. The colour black is associated with evil therefore presenting drugs as evil.
I will shoot part of the video in black and white in order to remove other elements that may distract from the message I want to present.

The purpose of my website will not only be to promote my music video and to support the message presented in the music video, but to promote the artists intentions and to make the artist relatable to the target audience in order to develop the relationship and deepen the meaning of the protest, due to this new found relationship. The website will have sleek photographs of the artist with colours that relate to the music video so that there is a clear link between the two.

Within the website I will include my music video as well as the original video by The Dandy Warhols. In order to make sure there is synergy between the music video and the website I am going to have photos of the actors in the website.
