Music video analysis

Another brick in the wall is a music video that's anti establishment and protesting against conforming to stereotypes.

Rebelling against the structure of our society that teaches children to fit into the norms. The message of this music video is that its ok to be different even if society says otherwise. In some way its criticising society as its suggesting that everyone believes they have to be 'another brick in the wall' or they will be alienated from society. They are saying that society is responsible for systematic brainwashing and abuse of the masses.

The video focuses on the way that the teachers and educational system teach their students. The video is protesting against the methods used to discipline students such as violence and shaming.

At the end of the music video it is revealed that it was a dream, the whole dream sequence is a visualisation of the desire to break free from oppression.

'We don't need no education' this is about children's dissatisfaction with their education. 'We don't need no thought control' this is saying that we don't need to be forced into societies false vales.

Saying you're just another brick in the wall is the same as saying you're just another piece in the structure and a supporter of an oppressive system. A brainwashed sheep or a petty fascist bully upholding the immoral values of a broken society.

The wall symbolises abuse and abandonment. Mental and physical abuse, the wall could be representing the barrier children put up if they feel isolated from society.

This music video is set in a factory and meant to symbolise a school. This is to show how harsh the school establishment can be. Also, to represent how schools craft children's minds. Also, the props of masks represent the loss of the children's identity.

  1. Some lovely thoughts here Erin. Make sure to refer to the use of media language in your analysis - refer to specific shot types, mise-en-scene, editing etc. This will make your analysis more detailed. Miss Cook :)
